100 miles.

ran 4 miles today
and hit
100 miles
since april.

I'm so so so excited / happy / can't-stop-smiling / sweaty (well, yeah) / sore / glad.

the stats:
12 miles in april
38 in may
50 in june

personal records:
fastest average pace - 8:45/mi
longest duration - 40:13 (consecutively. sometimes I got for another run a day ;))
most miles ran in a day - 5

when I started running, I could barely run 2 minutes straight. seriously.
I was huffing. and puffing. but I wasn't the little engine that could.
more like, I was barely able to breathe and my lungs were aching and my legs alternated between jello and bricks that threatened to melt or fall off.
and I really really really wanted to quit.

but slowly.
and surely.
and most definitely slowly.
let me emphasize slowly.
I started to get better.
I started to push myself (and not die in the process)
and my body started listening to me
and I could breathe again (sorta)
and I hit mini milestones and thought,
"hey, I can do this."

and I still have a long way to go.
I'm not training for any marathons and don't see any in the future.
I love running for the sake that it makes me strong.
my goal is to be fit and strong and healthy.
not necessarily a marathoner. ;)
I like short runs and quick runs and under 5 miles a day.
especially since my knees / ankles are so messed up from ballet, that's what I feel comfortable sticking with.

that doesn't mean that I won't someday go crazy and run 26.2 miles consecutively.
because I might!

but I like short runs.
I like 3-4 miles a day.
I like running 15-20 miles a week.
and that's what works for me.

so I'm focusing on endurance. building up to 4 miles straight
(right now I run for three, walk for 2 1/2 minutes, and run the rest of the way),
and a 5 mile run at least once a week.
I'm excited to set new goals and keep pushing forward.

but right now...
I'm happy. and content. and proud of myself.
because hey jack (in my best uncle si voice),
I ran 100 miles.
and that's pretty exciting. :)

  1. Hannah! I've been the worst at blog commenting lately, but I have to tell you how proud I am!! I'm trying to run, but I keep making excuses. If you can do this though, so can I! Please keep blogging (and instagramming) about this, because it's good to have motivation from someone else who started off as a pretty terrible runner!

  2. that is so exciting, Hannah! and wow. that's quite an accomplishment. ;) i always wanted to run--i love running. but my busy schedule always manages to push running out of the picture, and i don't have the motivation to get it back. (also, i've always wanted a running buddy... doesn't work around here, since i don't live in a neighborhood.)

it is worth it, though--running to be healthy & strong. and there is nothing quite like the exhilaration of running, and the good feeling of accomplishment when you finish a hard run. :)

congrats! ;) that is quite the landmark--you go, girl. <3

  3. Yay! Wow, Hannah! I'm so proud of you! Keep it up!!!!

  4. that's amazing that you ran 100 miles in 3 months! :)
and the fact that you quoted Duck Dynasty is super awesome. :)

  5. GOOD. JOB. GIRL. What an accomplishment. :)

  6. You go girl! I'm a sprinter not a long distance runner (even though I play soccer) so the thought of 5 miles a day doesn't sound fun. ;)
But I think it's so cool that you stuck through it and got stronger and stronger! Also, you used a Duck Dynasty reference, so I approve! :P

  7. You give me hope for me! What an inspiration. Someday, someday, I will meet you. :-) You go girl!

  8. Great job!!!! :) I love running! Sadly I've been sick for a couple weeks and I've had to stop for awhile. But hopefully I can start back soon. Anyway, you're an inspiration girl. Wish you the best,

p.s Ahaha your Duck Dynasty reference makes you even more awesome.

  9. YOU inspire me. Wow. It can be done!

  10. SO wonderful! And you look fab!

  11. Go and keep going!! :) You've inspired me. I've started running, and right now it's pathetic, but I'm determined to keep going until as you say, "my body listens to me." :)

  12. you go girl! you're giving me hope that I can actually become a good runner someday. ;) because right now, I can barely run for a minute without huffing and puffing. XD BUUUUUUT i'm starting with small goals for myself, and i'm waiting for my mp3 player armband to come in the mail, and i'm really excited. :)

  13. congrats hannah! that's literally awesome. it always feels so good when you get to your goals huh?

  14. This sounds like me when I started running last winter. (So glad I wasn't the only one huffing and puffing like the Little Engine that Could!) Congratulations on such an awesome accomplishment, friend:) Also, love your Uncle Si voice.

  15. thats super cool hannah. you go girl.

  16. you rock, girl! yay for sticking to goals and accomplishing things :)

  17. This is inspiring me to run. Congratulations!

  18. You definitely motivated me to get started!! That's awesome, congrats :)
